Hardly any other solo concerto begins as spectacularly as Peter Tchaikovsky’s Piano Concerto No. 1 in B flat minor. Four descending notes in the horns are answered by a tutti strike in the orchestra, before the solo piano enters with powerful, ascending chords after two repetitions. A grand gesture right at the beginning – while the wide-ranging theme lies beneath in the strings. Pianist Boris Giltburg is considered an expert on the Russian repertoire of the late 19th century. Giltburg combines technical brilliance with a wealth of timbres. These can also be experienced in Alexander Glazunov’s melancholic “Symphony No. 4”, Sergei Rachmaninov’s airy “Scherzo in D minor” and Robert Schumann’s contrasting orchestral work “Overture, Scherzo and Finale in E major”. The Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie Bremen also masters grand gestures – but without neglecting the small details, which are vividly brought out.

Dedicated to Hansjürg Saager, this concert has been made possible through the generous support of the EXEKIAS Foundation.

Written advance ticket reservations will be accepted from December 5. Online ticket sales at klosters-music.ch and through the tourist offices in Klosters and Davos will open on March 1, 2026.
