Klosters music inspires with extraordinary performances

Successful execution with signal effect for the music world

Pianist Sir András Schiff concluded the summer concerts of Klosters Music 2020 with an overwhelming performance of Beethoven’s last three piano sonatas. Other highlights included performances by Martin Helmchen (piano) and Veronika Eberle (violin) with The Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie Bremen (conductor: Pablo Heras-Casado), the Opera Gala with Christiane Karg and the Basel Chamber Orchestra (conductor: Riccardo Minasi) and the Quatuor Modigliani with Boris Giltburg (piano).

For ten days, Klosters Music honoured Beethoven’s 250th birthday with a performance of a selection of his most important works and can look back on an extremely successful performance.

Despite fewer concerts than in the 2019 edition, once again more than 3,000 listeners attended the events; three out of ten concerts were sold out. The gratitude of the musicians, who, with few exceptions, were all, after months in Klosters, back on stage in front of an audience for the first time, was omnipresent. The implementation of the protection concept was described as exemplary by the audience and musicians. Once again, the Concert Hall of the Arena proved to be an acoustically very suitable performance venue for orchestra, chamber music and solo recitals.

With the concert series 2020 Klosters Music has gained in importance and charisma in the world of classical music. The staging of the summer concerts was a signal to the national and international music world to reawaken from the cultural shock. In addition, the summer concerts were also a highlight in the summer tourist offer of the Destination Davos Klosters.

David Whelton, the artistic director of Klosters Music is happy: “Beethoven and the ‘Call of the Mountain’ in the majestic Alpine world provided the perfect setting to bring musicians and audiences together again. Outstanding performances by outstanding artists from around the world delighted the audience in Klosters. The week of great concerts reminded us how much live music enriches all our lives.”

The summer concerts of Klosters Music 2021 will take place from Friday, 30 July to Sunday, 8 August.
