Klosters Music at the Swiss Embassy in London
On Thursday 15 May, the Ambassador of Switzerland to the United Kingdom, Mr Markus Leitner and Mrs Doris Leitner, together with Mr Heinz Brand, President of the Foundation Art & Music, Klosters, welcomed guests from London and Klosters to the Swiss Ambassador’s Residence in Bryanston Square, London, for a concert given by the Gershwin Piano Quartet from Switzerland followed by an Apero Riche and an exhibition of sculpture by the Swiss artist, Christian Bolt.
In his opening remarks, the Ambassador congratulated the Foundation for realising its vision of a summer festival that brings together music and the visual arts, attracting artists of the highest quality to this beautiful Alpine region. Klosters now has a growing reputation among audiences in Switzerland and beyond as a sought-after summer cultural destination.
“The British community associate Klosters with the royal family’s ski vacations. However, the sports, tourism and cultural links between Klosters and the UK are much broader. The visit of Klosters Music to London provided an ideal environment to cultivate and deepen these close ties.”, said Ambassador Markus Leitner.
The concert programme took the audience from Strauss to Bernstein, from the drawing rooms of 19th Century Vienna to the Upper West Side of 20th Century New York and was played with great virtuosity and panache by the Gershwin Piano Quartet.
Christian Bolt guided guests through his specially curated exhibition which attracted great interest. The placing of his sculptures in the magnificent reception rooms added significantly to the guest’s enjoyment. “It was an exceptional evening, the combination of superb music making and Christian Bolt’s remarkable sculpture captured the spirit of Klosters to perfection” says David Whelton, Artistic Director of Klosters Music. A delicious Apero Riche provided the perfect conclusion to this celebration of Klosters Music in London.
