Sergei Prokofiev only took four days to write his musical fairy tale “Peter and the Wolf”. First performed in 1936, this work for narrator and orchestra is one of the most famous compositions of the 20th century and introduces children to the instruments of the orchestra in a playful way. A string quartet for Peter, the flute for a bird, the oboe for the duck, the bassoon for the grandfather, the horns for the wolf and drums for the hunters – all played live by the City Light Chamber Orchestra. In our performance, the fairy tale comes to life even more vividly because animated illustrations specially created for Klosters Music are shown on the big screen, transporting the story to the Grisons mountains. The children are close to the action and can share the excitement of finding out whether Peter really will catch the bad wolf at the end. And afterwards they are compensated for the suspense with an ice cream.
