ROMANTIC SPIRITS
Sir András Schiffpiano
The blue flower grows in the land of poetry. It was first mentioned by Novalis in his fragmentary novel “Heinrich von Ofterdingen”. In Romanticism, the blue flower symbolises the longing for self-knowledge, redeeming love and infinity. In his recital, Sir András Schiff delves deep into the poetic world of Romanticism. The pianist describes Robert Schumann as the “Romantic par excellence”. You have to think, feel and play poetically when interpreting the music of this composer, says Schiff. A good dose of artistic licence and imagination is needed to achieve the right expression. For Robert Schumann, Felix Mendelsohn Bartholdy was the Mozart of the 19th century. And he also thought highly of Johannes Brahms. Sir András Schiff combines works by all three composers in his recital. And he will guide audience through the land of poetry with some introductory words.
