Klosters Music opens with a concert recreating the tradition of an evening of chamber music and song popular in the great palaces in Beethoven’s time. The Vienna Piano Trio, one of the world’s leading chamber ensembles, opens the programme with Haydn’s sparkling Piano Trio in C Major. This is followed by Beethoven’s Song Cycle “An die ferne Geliebte”, sung by the German baritone Benjamin Appl, Sony Classic exclusive artist and winner of the prestigious Gramophone Award New Artist of the Year 2016. The “Archduke Trio”, one of the greatest piano trios of all time and a work of extraordinary beauty and profundity, brings this special concert to a close.
