Masterpieces by Mozart, Beethoven and Mendelssohn guarantee an evening of sublime chamber music. The Schumann String Quartet, OPUS KLASSIK 2019 prize winners, and the Quatuor Van Kuijk join forces to perform Mendelssohn’s ever popular Octet. Written when he was only 16, its youthful verve and brilliance make it one of the miracles of 19th Century music. Clarinettist Pablo Barragán is their ideal partner in Mozart’s immortal Clarinet Quintet. Beethoven’s String Quartet Op 18 No 3, which opens the concert, is regarded as a brilliantly conceived piece full of sparkling ideas, which typically for Beethoven always plays with expectations and conventions.
